Maui Honey Bee Sanctuary owner to speak at Rotary meeting

By Staff | Jan 14, 2022

Erica Erickson’s presentation, “All About Bees,” will cover interesting facts about the honeybee.

WEST MAUI — Erica Erickson, the owner of Maui Honey Bee Sanctuary, will be the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset’s Hybrid meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

At press time, the meeting is scheduled to be held in-person and hybrid at the Royal Ocean Terrace Restaurant at the Royal Lahaina Resort.

Erickson is on a mission to educate the public about one of our most important pollinators, the honeybee.

She moved to Maui in 2015 and began The Maui Honey Bee Sanctuary in order to bridge the gap between people’s fear of bees and their appreciation of this amazing insect.

Erickson first became aware of honeybees when she started making products with beeswax, such as candles, lotions and reusable food wraps.

She turned her love of crafting with beeswax into a brand called Da Beehive, and she also operates a shop in downtown Paia. Here, she enjoys connecting the public with bees through her products while inviting visitors to enjoy a hands-on experience at the sanctuary through her educational program called the Maui Honey Bee Adventure.
