Collins to speak at Rotary meeting

By Staff | Nov 12, 2021

Commissioned by the Maui Academy of Performing Arts for its annual educational theatre tour, Kathy Collins has written and performed in three original plays, touching the hearts and minds of over 18,000 Maui students.

KAANAPALI — Kathy Collins, storyteller, stage and film actress, radio and television personality, stand-up comedian, emcee and dancer, will be the guest speaker at the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset’s hybrid meeting at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16.

At press time, the meeting is scheduled to be held in-person at the Royal Ocean Terrace Restaurant at the Royal Lahaina Resort and virtually.

Collins has told Hawaiian legends and Japanese folk tales across the state and the U.S. Mainland and Canada, from the Hawaii Book & Music Festival to the Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival in New York City.

Her one-woman comedy shows at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center have consistently sold out, and she has opened for renowned comedians, including Howie Mandel and Rita Rudner.

She is also a newspaper columnist (The Maui News) and freelance writer.

Fifty years ago, few people outside of Hawaii could have predicted Maui’s eventual reputation as a world-class destination. Collins will talk about growing up on (and with) the Valley Isle. She’ll also share a favorite story or two.
