‘Rotary on the Road’ tours Kapalua’s Hui Momona Farms

Members of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset tour Hui Momona Farms.
KAPALUA — On a recent damp and misty Sunday morning, 12 members and friends from the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset had the opportunity to attend a “Rotary on the Road” Vocational Tour of Hui Momona Farms.
This 25-acre facility and working farm sits atop the scenic Kapalua Resort at Honolua Ridge within The Plantation Estates gated community.
Formed in 2017, the small Hua Momona Farms team of eight worked tirelessly to prepare the land and construct the necessary equipment and resources.
This unique operation rose to the #1 Micro-Greens Farm in Hawaii after only one year in operation.
The Rotary Club members learned so much from their three “tour guides” — Gary Grube, owner/CEO; Zach Laidlaw, executive chef and distribution manager, Maui; and Tina Carranza, production specialist.
Rotarian Katie Zimmerman said, “This farm offers micro-greens and vegetables to local restaurants and farmers markets.
“Our group learned about the growing process and harvesting. We got to sample the flavorful micro-greens and harvested tomatoes! It was great to learn about this unique farm and how they support local farmers and the agriculture industry on Maui.”
Club member Alayna Davies-Smith commented, “It was so satisfying to see farmers dedicated to produce quality food with care for the ‘aina.
“This vocational tour was both informative and fun!”
This tour is one of the many projects and activities that the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset does to involve and engage members.
