By Staff | Jul 9, 2021

LAHAINA — Lahainaluna High School is making preparations for the new school year with payment of fees, picking up tentative class schedules, issuing Chromebooks and more. This Back to School Event is taking place in Hale Pa’ina from Tuesday to Thursday, July 20-23.

The event on Tuesday, July 20, is for students with last names beginning with A through B from 9 to 11 a.m. and students C-E from 1 to 3 p.m.

Students with last names beginning with F through J are expected between 9 and 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 21, while students K-M can come from 1 to 3 p.m. On Thursday, July 22, the morning group from 9 to 11 a.m. will be N-R students, and S-Z students will attend from 1 to 3 p.m.

The mandatory fee for grades 9, 10 and 11 is $25. For seniors, the fee is $30, which includes a $5 graduation fee. Additionally, order forms for caps and gowns will be available at the event.

Reminder: Seniors who have NOT taken their Senior Portrait need to call Nagamine Photo Studio at 244-3636 and make their appointment to get their photo in the yearbook.

Optional fees for all grades include $25 for an MIL Athletic Pass (mandatory for all athletes and boarders) and $50 for a 2022 “Ka Lama” Yearbook.

For all students taking school ID photos, appropriate attire must be worn.

Representatives from the Parent Teacher Student Association will be on hand to accept annual dues (paid separately from school dues). They will also pass out applications to seniors for Project Graduation 2022, the post-commencement event.

Uniforms will be available for purchase — T-shirts for $8 and polo shirts for $13.

All payments must be made by cash, cashier’s check or money order. Personal checks are not accepted.

Families are asked to complete before July 20, online, the Emergency Information form available on the LHS website or at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdsDiXx2G0kT253a4PQnFmFhTMG38ujjftAfrq3Wt4o9CS20w/viewform?usp=sf_link.

Computers will be available to complete applications for free and reduced lunch, transportation (bus) passes and electronically depositing money into students’ meal plans at the event.

Several mandatory forms will be distributed requiring parents’/guardians’ signatures, so they are requested to attend. Chromebooks will be distributed (one for each student). Before the pandemic, Lahainaluna’s goal was to provide a Chromebook to each student. This school year, we are able to do this!

Boarders are NOT required to attend this Back to School event. Packets have been mailed directly to them; please follow those instructions.

Also on hand for pickup will be Student School Picture forms, student planners and 2021 Yearbooks for those who have not yet picked them up.

The school has also scheduled orientation and school picture taking on Tuesday, Aug. 3, for all new and transferring students, freshmen and sophomores. They are to report to the Jimmie Greig Gymnasium at 7:50 a.m. dressed appropriately for a full day of events.

Reporting on Wednesday, Aug. 4, at 7:50 a.m. are ALL students again to the Jimmie Greig Gymnasium. The agenda includes the opening assembly, activities, and juniors and seniors will be taking their school photos.

The first day of classes will be Thursday, Aug. 5, where students follow their tentative schedule and the new bell schedule provided at the Back to School event in July.

Incoming transfer students must make an appointment (no appointments or enrollment will be available July 20-23) with the school registrar, Shanda Sasai, for school enrollment, by calling 662-4000. At the appointment, please bring a copy of the previous school’s transcript.

Students transferring from a Hawaii school should also bring a release packet when enrolling.
