Council committee meetings suspended during budget session
WAILUKU — The Maui County Council’s committee meetings will be suspended during the annual budget session starting on March 29, Council Chair Alice L. Lee announced.
According to the Maui County Charter, the mayor must submit to the council an operating budget and a capital program by March 25.
Fiscal year 2022 begins July 1, 2021, and the council must pass the budget by June 10.
“The Budget, Finance and Economic Development Committee will conduct the budget session, and all other committees will be asked to refrain from meeting from the end of March through May 15,” Lee said.
Lee said exceptions may be granted for time-sensitive matters, including court-imposed deadlines for litigation matters and deadlines for appointments to boards and commissions.
Members of the public can view council and committee meetings on Akaku Channel 53 or provide testimony via the video conference link or phone number listed on meeting agendas.
