LAHAINA — At a recent virtual meeting of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset, Donny Marya was inducted as the club’s newest member.
She was inducted into the club by Past District Governor Nalani Flinn; Donny was sponsored by member Rebecca von Bachelle.
Radesh “Donny” Marya was born and raised in India and came to the United States when she married. She studied interior design when in university in India.
Donny’s husband, BK Marya, was an electrical engineer. After a few years working, he opened his own semiconductor company, Catalyst Semiconductor. Donny assisted him with the set-up of his start-up and was basically a jack of all trades, helping finding sites for the company, doing payables and billings, and anything else that needed to be done.
The Maryas first came to Maui in July 1988 for a vacation; walking off the plane, they couldn’t believe they had never visited before. They returned in November that year and bought into The Masters in Kaanapali, which was (and still is) a fabulous property.
Donny always felt sad leaving Maui after the vacations, and now, in their retirement, they are spending more and more time on Maui.
Donny said, “I knew about Rotary but never really knew what they did. I am looking forward to getting more involved with my community all over the world. What we do affects everyone, so we need to spread aloha all over. Hawaii is an amazing place in the world, and I’m so happy that it’s been part of my life and my family’s lives for so long.”
The Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset is meeting virtually via Zoom. Meetings are held on the first, third and fifth Tuesday evenings at 5:30 p.m. The public is invited to join in on any meeting.
