Maui Citizens Climate Lobby volunteer to speak at Rotary Zoom meeting

By Staff | Aug 27, 2020

WEST MAUI – At 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset will feature Jeff Stark as the virtual speaker.

Stark will share information about the Citizens Climate Lobby, a national lobbying organization working on House Bill 763, the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act, which is currently in play in the U.S. House of Representatives and co-sponsored by 80 House members and over 100 states, counties, townships and other jurisdictions.

The bipartisan legislation would pay all American households an amount equal, or nearly so, to the cost of increasing the cost of fossil fuels. None of the money involved will go to the government.

The bill has also been vetted by several research universities and environmental “think tanks.”

This bill is a “carbon pricing” measure aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the U.S. by 40 percent over ten to 12 years. It will stimulate renewable energy innovation and implementation, and can be exported to other nations.

The Maui Chapter of Citizens Climate Lobby recently sponsored its latest National Lobbying Day. All Hawaii members of Congress participated in focused conversations on strategy and tactics to move climate change legislation forward.

Club members will receive an automatic invitation to this Zoom Meeting. If a guest would like to join this virtual meeting of the Rotary Club of Lahaina Sunset, contact Past President Mariko Higashi at marikoinmaui@gmail.com to be included on the invite list.
