Expert to speak on emergency planning

By Staff | Jun 13, 2019

KAANAPALI – The West Maui Taxpayers Association and Rotary Club of Lahaina announced that a special speaker will make a presentation on disaster planning for West Maui on Thursday, June 13, at noon at the Royal Lahaina Resort’s Ocean Terrace Restaurant.

There is no cost to attend the meeting. The general public is invited and encouraged to attend.

Dr. Dennis A. Terpin will be the guest speaker. He just retired from the University of Illinois at Chicago as its emergency manager.

The presentation will cover how families can plan together to survive an All Hazards incident or event.

A master level instructor for FEMA and the Department of Homeland Security, Terpin is quoted as saying, “All planning processes should take an ‘All Hazards’ approach. There are many different threats or hazards. The probability that a specific hazard will impact your family is hard to determine. That’s why it’s important to consider many different threats and hazards and the likelihood they will occur.”
