LAHAINA – The county Department of Parks and Recreation was scheduled to begin repaving work on the two parking lots at Launiupoko Beach Park on Monday.

Both parking lots will remain open during the first week, with sections blocked off temporarily for installation of safety measures.

The parking lot on the ocean side of Honoapiilani Highway will close completely on Monday, March 4, and reopen the following week. On Monday, March 11, work will move to the parking lot on the mountain side the highway, where it also will be closed for about a week.

The beach park, restrooms and showers will remain open during construction. Safety measures will be put in place to protect and direct beach park users.

The public is asked to avoid the construction area and equipment to ensure the safety of all visitors and residents.

Sonny Vicks Paving Inc. was contracted for the improvements at a cost of $257,499.67. Otomo Engineering Inc. is the design consultant for the project.
