Workshops on effective lobbying coming to Maui Oct. 15-18
HONOLULU – With a new legislative session just around the corner, now is an ideal time for the public to learn more about how laws are created in our state and what citizens can do to have a say in the process.
This year, the Public Access Room (PAR) is offering two new workshops at various locations on Maui. One is geared towards newcomers and provides an introduction to the legislative process to get new participants ready for the session.
The second workshop is for those who already have an understanding of how laws are made and will focus on advanced advocacy tips on effective lobbying.
“How-to” guides, informational handouts and other resources will be available. The beginner’s presentation will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by the advanced presentation from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m., at Makawao Public Library on Oct. 15, Kihei Public Library on Oct. 16, Akaku Community Media on Oct. 17 and Wailuku Public Library on Oct. 18.
While registration for the free workshops is encouraged, drop-ins are always welcome. To register, get more information or ask about additional workshops during this annual visit, contact PAR toll-free at 984-2400, extension 7-0478, or e-mail par@capitol.hawaii.gov.
