King Kamehameha III Elementary School begins safety campaign

By Staff | Oct 11, 2018

LAHAINA – Beginning on Monday, Oct. 15, and running through Thursday, Oct. 18, King Kamehameha III Elementary School on Front Street will be running the “Keiki Cross Safely” campaign.

During the week, students from three of the fifth grade classes will be assisting school staff and volunteers to remind pedestrians to cross safely by using one of the designated crosswalks located adjacent to the school.

There has been an increase in pedestrians crossing at unsafe points, and the School Staff and Safety Committee realized that the best way to correct the behavior was not only to tell the children in school but to allow student voices to be an integral part of the campaign.

Students will be making posters and hand-held fans to help spread the message of “Keiki Cross Safely.” The campaign hopes to kindly remind our students, parents, community members and visitors that the safest place to traverse the very busy road is at the crosswalk with the crossing guard.
