HSTA endorses Sen. Roz Baker
LAHAINA – The Hawaii State Teachers Association (HSTA) has endorsed incumbent Roz Baker for her candidacy in the 2018 General Election. Baker is seeking re-election to the Sixth Senatorial District of South and West Maui.
According to HTSA President Corey Rosenlee, “After research, membership input, interviews and committee discussions about the candidates who applied for HSTA’s recommendation, Roz Baker was among those endorsed by the HSTA Board of Directors for the General Election. We believe she will be a strong advocate for teachers, students and public education.”
“The endorsement of Hawaii’s teachers in the General Election means a lot to me on a personal level,” said Baker. “I grew up in a household of teachers. My Dad was a coach and school administrator. My Mother was an elementary school teacher who taught Special Needs students, and I saw how dedicated she was and how much of a difference she made in her students. Although I graduated with a teaching certificate, I chose to work for teachers instead by supporting their efforts throughout my legislative career. I’m proud to be an advocate for our public schools and will continue to work hard to provide more resources for classroom teachers, better salaries and improved facilities.”
The Hawaii State Teachers Association is the exclusive representative of over 13,500 public school teachers statewide.
