Maui Disability Alliance to hold Legislative Forum
WAILUKU – The 22nd annual Maui Disability Legislative Forum will be held on Thursday, Sept. 27, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Wailuku Community Center.
At this forum for people with disabilities, lawmakers will engage with community members through a game of “Candidate Jeopardy” in answering questions about issues facing the public.
According to Ellen Lundquist, “We realize a game show format is a fun and entertaining way to catch the attention, create community and educate our elected officials, so they can see how serious the challenges are that we face daily.”
State and county lawmakers will test their knowledge on community access for those with seen and unseen challenges. Come early to talk story, or stay a little later to meet and speak with those who make legislative changes. Pupus and drinks will be available.
Individuals needing access accommodations should contact Roxann Kehus at 9848218 or Roxann.Kehus@doh.hawaii.gov. American sign-language interpreters will be present. The forum is sponsored by the Maui Disability Alliance, an association of 29 groups on Maui serving the needs of people with disabilities. For more information, visit www.mauidisabilityalliance.org.
