Registration open for Relay for Life Cancer Survivors’ Dinner
LAHAINA – Registration is now open for the 2018 Relay for Life of West Maui. Join the fight against cancer! The family-friendly fundraising event on Sept. 8 from 5 p.m. to midnight at Maui Paintball in Olowalu is free and open to the public.
Participants will enjoy live entertainment, great food and activity booths.
Cancer survivors and caregivers are invited to a free dinner and to walk the first lap of the relay.
Shuttles to the event will be available from Lahaina Cannery Mall for those who register by Aug. 15.
Families, businesses and corporate teams are invited to join at the Relay for Life of West Maui, as the American Cancer Society raises funds to support cancer research and free programs/services for Maui cancer patients and their families.
Uniting communities across the globe, Relay for Life events celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost and take action for lifesaving change.
During the relay, teams set up activity and food booths around a walking track, and members of each team take turns walking the path. Teams participate in fundraising and collect additional donations during the event while selling food, drinks or tickets to play games.
Cancer survivors and their caregivers walk the first celebratory lap of the Relay for Life at 5 p.m. and then are treated to a special dinner in their honor at 5:30 p.m. Participants continue to walk the track until midnight, visiting the team booths along the way and enjoying live entertainment and activities all night long.
As the sky goes dark at 8 p.m., the Luminaria Lantern Ceremony begins. Lanterns with personalized dedications honoring loved ones touched by cancer are placed on the walking track and set aglow.
