Maui Prep accepting applications for Pueo Pilot Scholarship Program
N APILI – As admissions season for the 2018-19 school year picks up pace, Maui Preparatory Academy is excited to announce a number of programs and initiatives.
First and foremost, the Pueo Pilot Scholarship Program is launching once again for February. This scholarship, open to incoming and current high school students, provides one fully funded and a series of partial scholarships to make a college preparatory education possible for determined applicants.
Last year some 15 students applied for the scholarship from Lahaina Intermediate School, Sacred Hearts Academy, Hawaii Technology Academy and from other schools around the island. The winning student was Aiesha Pradhan from Lahaina Intermediate School, but many other impressive young people earned partial scholarships and are now making a positive impact on West Maui as Maui Preparatory Academy students.
Senior Kysha Altura, a Pueo Pilot Scholar for the last four years, has truly exemplified the success of the program, as she has flourished academically, as a scholar athlete in swimming and as leader in the extracurricular life of the school. As a result of her commitment and hard work, Kysha plans to attend Fordham University in New York City next fall on a full scholarship.
Maui Prep will be accepting Pueo Pilot Scholarship applications on a rolling basis throughout the month of February. All applicants will have a chance to interview with the scholarship committee. The scholarship committee is especially interested to meet students who have the potential for leadership in all phases of school life, including the classroom, in the arts, athletics and in extracurricular life. The final deadline for Pueo Pilot Scholarship applicants is Friday, March 2.
Financial aid applications are also now available. Paying for a private school education is a major commitment and sacrifice, and Maui Preparatory Academy is always working hard to raise funds to open its doors to determined students and families.
Applications must be submitted by Friday, March 2, to be considered.
This past year was a banner year for enrollment at this 13-year-old preschool-12th grade college preparatory school with over 240 students attending throughout the year. The preschool experienced record interest, including a waitlist. And, the international boarding program for students in grades 8-12 continued to grow with over 15 student residents in the program throughout this year representing Japan, China, Germany, Austria, Italy, Brazil and the United States.
To support growing student interest, Maui Prep is launching a Boys JV/Varsity Basketball Program next year, with a vision to establish an enclosed athletics/performing arts space on campus that will be able to host home contests in both volleyball and basketball for the first time in the school’s history. Maui Prep is also planning a multi-year preschool facility expansion to accommodate increased demand, with the first phase of construction planned for this summer. Also planned for this summer will be the expansion of the Center for Creativity, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship (CCIE), with construction of a new digital media lab/classroom, an incubator for student creativity in video production, website creation, social media management and more.
