Sophie Swim set for Aug. 28

KAANAPALI – The annual Sophie Swim, an open water swim, will be held on Sunday, Aug. 28. The two-kilometer course is from Kahekilli Beach Park to Black Rock and back.

Registration will be held from 7 to 7:30 a.m. at the Kahekilli Beach Park Pavilion.

The youth race starts at 8 a.m., and the adults start at 8:15 a.m.

Bring the whole family and race by age and category, with or without fins. Winners and runners-up will be awarded prizes; contributors include Mark Ellman, Honu and Mala; Paris and Donna Nabavi, Sangrita; Jan Nolan, Queen’s Treasure; Greg and Kim VanderLaan, UFO Parasail; Lucy and Gerry Corson, The Gazebo and Koa’s; Zipline Kaanapali; Hula Grill; Leilani’s; and Kimo’s.

The first 50 entrants will receive an “atomic tangerine” swim cap, beach towel and mesh bag.

Money raised will go to the Sophie DeLoria Foundation. The cost is $25 for adults and $15 for kids; registration is available online at flpregister.com/226.

Kahekili Beach Park is privately owned and maintained by the Ka’anapali North Beach Masters Association at their sole expense. This beach park property and its facilities are made available to the public for primarily casual park uses and beach access; subject to signage at the park which clearly indicates and states rules and regulations for use and enjoyments of the facilities during posted hours only and strictly prohibiting commercial uses.
