By Staff | Aug 4, 2016

Students in Lahaina Arts Association’s free art classes are creating marine artwork during the Lahaina Harborfront improvement project.

LAHAINA – Lahaina keiki attending Lahaina Arts Association’s free, weekly art classes have created marine artwork for the Lahaina Harborfront improvement project.

Artwork includes collaborative paintings of whales, fish, sharks, turtles and more. Dozens of children from LAA’s three Lahaina classes participated, and they will continue to create beautiful work throughout the summer as the harbor project continues.

Classes are held Mondays at the Lahaina Surf housing site, Tuesdays at the Lahaina Boys & Girls Club and Wednesdays at Honokowai Kau Hale. Classes are free and open to all children and families of Maui.

LAA currently hosts six weekly after-school art classes around Maui County, including locations such as Paia, Kihei, Lahaina and Wailuku, and supports in-school arts programs for Hana School and Kaunakakai School on Molokai.

Lahaina Arts Association is a 501 (c)(3) charity dedicated to providing Maui County youth access to the creative arts through education and artistic opportunities. LAA offers free art classes to children on Maui and Molokai through the Maui Youth Art Outreach Program.

LAA also provides a Hawaiian Youth Mentoring Program and awards partial tuition assistance scholarships to graduating Maui County art students.

The nonprofit inspires creative thinking and artistic expression by creating opportunities for art appreciation and education through the support of grants, foundations and individual donations.
