Hotel hosts free presentations on history
KAPALUA – “A Sense of Place,” an honest look into Hawaii’s history from 1778 to the present through the eyes and lens of Dr. Elizabeth Kapu’uwailani Lindsey’s award-winning film “Then There Were None,” is held Fridays at 10 a.m. in The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua’s Hotel Theater.
Attendees are invited to get involved in a discussion on how to move Hawaii into the future while paying tribute to the past.
“If we understand where we went we can get a grasp on where we are going,” said Clifford Nae’ole, the resort’s Hawaiian cultural advisor.
A short walk to the borders of the Honokahua Preservation Site will focus on its significance in terms of the Hawaiian renaissance and events that set many precedents and laws into action.
The event is complimentary to the community and visitors.

Meeting to detail Lahaina Harbor Dredging Project
LAHAINA – At a meeting on Thursday, Aug. 4, Rep. Angus McKelvey, Sen. Rosalyn Baker, state Department of Land and Natural Resources officials and Lt. Liezl A. Nicholas of the U.S. Coast Guard will provide all harbor users and stakeholders with an update on the Lahaina Harbor Dredging Project along with a proposed timetable.
The meeting will be held at the Pioneer Inn’s Snug Harbor Room at 5:30 p.m.
According to Rep. McKelvey, the dredging project is important, because the shallow depth of the entrance channel could pose safety concerns to harbor mariners.
