Lahainaluna High School Hawaiiana Club members practice their themed hula in preparation for the David Malo Day Ho‘olaule‘a. The cultural event begins at 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, at Boarders’ Field on campus. This year’s theme is “Pelehonuamea: Sacred Earth.” Call the LHS office at 662-4000 for ticket information.

LahainaTown Action Committee to present Classic Car Show

LAHAINA – Classic cars will parade down Front Street at 5:45 p.m. on Friday, April 8, then park on the street, which will be closed from Prison Street to Lahainaluna Road for LahainaTown Action Committee’s fourth annual Classic Car Show.

Co-sponsored by Cool Cat Cafe, the event will be broadcast via live remote from Campbell Park with KONI 104.7 and Joe Hawkins. Darren Lee from “Burn’n Love” will be in the park at 6 p.m., and Jimmy Mac and the Kool Kats will perform from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Soroptimist International of West Maui will hold their annual silent auction from 6 to 8 p.m., and Yelp will have a check-in station. Several West Side keiki non-profits will run food booths from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. to raise funds.

Ron Artis II & Thunderstorm will perform on Saturday, April 9, at 7:30 p.m. in the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s McCoy Studio Theater. Over the past year, Ron (left) and Thunderstorm have caught the eye and ear of everyone from Booker T. Jones to Jack Johnson to John Cruz and Paula Fuga. With heavenly harmonies, standout musicianship and a treasure trove of moving, original songs, the Artis brothers prove that roots music is alive and well in contemporary culture. Japengo to offer Maui Tastemakers Dinners

KAANAPALI – In celebration of the abundance, variety and quality of ingredients on Maui, Japengo at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa will offer its second annual 2016 Maui Tastemakers Series with new partners and Pacific Rim-inspired cuisine.

The Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary offers free “45-Ton Whale Talks” on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at the sanctuary center at 726 S. Kihei Road, and Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in the Old Lahaina Courthouse Theater. All talks start at 11 a.m. and last about an hour. Join the sanctuary’s knowledgeable staff and volunteers as they present informative facts about humpback whales. Learn about their anatomy, behavior, why they make the journey from Alaska to Hawaii, and what they do while they are here. This presentation is great for all levels of humpback whale enthusiasts. LHS Class of ’73 to hold reunion

LAHAINA – The Lahainaluna High School Class of 1973 is holding their class reunion on June 10-11, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Activities scheduled for the two-day event include a welcome cocktail party, and an emceed dinner reunion celebration on Saturday, both at the Red Rock Casino, Resort & Spa. A Saturday morning golf tournament at Siena Golf Course is also set. The deadline for classmates to sign up is May 10, 2016.

Pacific Cancer Foundation offers West Maui support group

LAHAINA – Pacific Cancer Foundation sponsors free support groups for cancer survivors (any stage of treatment or in remission) and caregivers.

Group meetings are held on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month with a licensed psychotherapist. Linda Tesar-Amimoto facilitates the West Maui group at the Imua Physical Therapy office at 40 Kupohi St. at 6 p.m.

Lahaina Baptist Church to hold silent auction

LAHAINA – Lahaina Baptist Church will hold a silent auction to help Lahaina youth and children attend camp.

The silent auction will be held on Sunday, April 24, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lahaina Cannery Mall. Items up for bid include luau and magic show tickets, dinners, activities, ice cream, boat trips, and artwork. Call Nancy at (808) 298-6642.

Lahaina Intermediate School to host volleyball tournament

LAHAINA – Lahaina Intermediate School is holding its 31st annual volleyball tournament on Friday, April 15, from 4 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, April 16. from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Lahaina Civic Center.

Come and support Lahaina Intermediate and the other Maui County schools. There will be shoyu chicken and kalua pork plates for sale.
