John Miles Livingston, 57
John Miles Livingston of Lahaina passed away on the morning of Aug. 26, 2015 at Maui Memorial Medical Center.
He was born in Urbana, Illinois on Nov. 16, 1957 to Miles Kenyon and Betty June Livingston, who predeceased him. His grandparents, L.L. and Annabelle Lewis and Russell and Mary Livingston of Champaign, Illinois, and his nephew, Noah James Moyer of Makanda, Illinois, also predeceased him.
Those who remain behind cherish their memories of Johnny, including Robin Real and Jose Calvardi, faithful and loving companions of the home. Surviving family members include sister Donna Livingston of Greensboro, North Carolina; sister Kay (Tom) Moyer and nieces Jessica, Kimberly and Ariel Moyer, all of Makanda, Illinois; and nephew Joses (Sarah) Moyer and son Julian of Chicago, Illinois. Also missing Johnny are his aunt and uncle, Bill and Reba Craven, his cousins and their children in Illinois.
John grew up in Urbana, Illinois, where he enjoyed playing baseball and football through his school years. After attending Parkland Junior College in Champaign, he proudly joined the U.S. Army. Following his honorable discharge in 1989, Johnny moved to Lahaina.
He loved living in Lahaina, where he worked at Leilani’s on the Beach restaurant as a chef since 2000. Johnny was honored with the “Employee of the Month” award in January 2005. Those at Leilani’s were his ‘ohana, and he loved them all. They supported John through his illness of colon cancer, and he was very grateful for each of them who stood by him.
Johnny loved the Chicago Bears football team and NCAA basketball. He drove around Lahaina on his blue moped and was called “Moped Johnny” by many. He loved eating at Aloha Mixed Plate, Pioneer Inn and Lulu’s Restaurants, but his favorite place to eat was Leilani’s.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Johnny on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 9 a.m. with a military honor guard at Airport Beach on Kai Laa Street. More information may be obtained at (808) 268-7621 or from Leilani’s on the Beach restaurant.
