Pacific Whale Foundation welcomes new catamaran

Ocean Spirit is equipped with U.S. Coast Guard-approved whale protection devices to guide whales away from propellers and running gear.
LAHAINA – Pacific Whale Foundation last week introduced Ocean Spirit, the newest addition to its fleet.
Built in St. Croix by Gold Coast Yachts, the luxury sailing catamaran made the almost 5,900-mile journey to the Hawaiian Islands in just 42 days.
After a brief stop in Honolulu, Ocean Spirit arrived at its harbor home in Lahaina on Dec. 17.
The vessel features an onboard barbecue, water slide, three swim ladders, full bar, teak dining tables and flooring, surround sound system, and the latest in navigational and sailing technology.
The eco-friendly vessel is equipped with state-of-the-art sails and rigging; clean-burning, fuel-efficient engine; and a fiberglass hull that incorporates noise reduction features to protect sound sensitive whales and dolphins.
Ocean Spirit hosts whale and dolphin watches, as well as snorkeling trips, sunset cocktail cruises and private charters for visitors and residents of Maui.
Daily tours leave four times per day from Lahaina Harbor. For more information, visit Pacific Whale Foundation’s website at www.pacificwhale.org or call (800) 942-5311.
