Atherton Foundation awards technology grant to Maui Preparatory Academy
NAPILI – The Atherton Foundation, a Hawaii-based charitable organization, recently awarded Maui Preparatory Academy an educational grant for $10,000.
Maui Prep will use the funds to upgrade technology throughout the classrooms and support technology integration.
“This grant builds on the continual improvement process that Maui Prep has been working on for the past four years as a recognized School of the Future through the adoption of applied knowledge and student-directed learning, expanded course offerings such as hybrid-online courses, robotics, and software-based differentiated learning,” said Brandon Hazlet, the school’s technology director.
“In addition, Maui Prep has built vanguard programs in the field of technology with offerings such as 3D programming, cross-grade collaborations, and digitally enabled astronomy.”
“We are honored to accept this support and recognition from the Atherton Foundation,” said Dr. Jonathan Silver, head of school.
“It is our goal, with the help of this grant, to increase the number of students who learn in a technology-rich environment through infrastructure and access improvements.”
Set to take place in spring 2014, the first phase of this project will focus on teacher laptop upgrades, expanded wireless Internet coverage and professional development for all Maui Prep teachers.
