Maui Fire Department to hold demonstration
WAILUKU – In honor of Fire Prevention Week, Maui Fire Department is joining forces with the National Fire Protection Association to remind residents to “Prevent Kitchen Fires.”
To help build awareness, MFD is holding a demonstration open to the public and local elementary schools on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Lahaina Recreation Center.
Firefighters will demonstrate how they rappel, cut up cars with the “Jaws of Life” and put out fires.
MFD’s Air-1 helicopter, Sparky Dog and Smokey Bear will also appear. For information, visit www.mauicounty.gov/fireprevention.
Halloween candy buy-back fundraiser set
LAHAINA – Kihei/Lahaina Orthodontics is holding a Halloween candy buy-back all day on Monday, Nov. 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants earn $2 per pound of candy surrendered. Kihei/Lahaina Orthodontics will then match the money, which will be donated to the Maui Food Bank. The candy will be sent to U.S. troops overseas.
To celebrate National Orthodontic Health Month, Maui Orthodontist Dr. Sujata Bhatia invites Maui residents to surrender the Halloween candy – that can play tricks on orthodontic treatment – and trade it in for the treat of helping others!

Event to support Assistance Dogs of Hawaii
KAHANA – Maui Brewing Co. in Kahana Gateway will host another “Wag Your Tails for Maui Ales!” event on Friday, Oct. 25, from 6 p.m. to midnight.
Maui Brewing Co. will donate a portion of the proceeds from its beers sold to Assistance Dogs of Hawaii (ADH). Call 669-3474 for information.
Mission to hold Fall Mini-Bazaar
LAHAINA – A Fall Mini-Bazaar will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 8 to 11 a.m. at Lahaina Hongwanji Mission, 551 Wainee St.

Sparks to speak
MAALAEA – Maui Ocean Center’s free Sea Talk Series continues on Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 7 p.m. with “Concerns with Maui’s Nearshore Fish Resources and How You Can Get Involved” by Aquatic Biologist Russell Sparks.
Sea Talks are held in the Open Ocean exhibit; enter through the front gate from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Seating is limited; register by calling 270-7088.
Halloween Bash set
SOUTH MAUI – Three’s Bar and Grill will host Maui AIDS Foundation’s annual Halloween Bash on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 8:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
There will be a costume contest with winners every hour and dancing to music by three Maui deejays.
Tickets are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. All ticket sales and 15 percent of food and beverage will be donated to the foundation. Purchase tickets online at www.MauiAIDS.org.
Church to stage ‘Hotter Than Hell’
KAHULUI – King’s Cathedral at 777 Mokulele Highway will stage “Hotter Than Hell,” featuring impersonations of some of the hottest stars of the past century, at 7 p.m. on Oct. 24-27.

Kumulani Chapel to hold Harvest Festival
KAPALUA – Kumulani Chapel will host its Annual Harvest Festival for keiki on Wednesday, Oct. 30, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Hale Hokulani (The Barn) in Kapalua on Office Road across from Sansei.
Keiki through fifth grade are encouraged to dress in friendly costumes and enjoy the fun, including game booths, prizes, candy, hot dogs, popcorn, jumping castles and a few surprises! Admission is free.
This year, Kumulani Chapel is encouraging families to be a blessing this Thanksgiving by bringing canned or nonperishable food donations for Feed My Sheep.

Lions holding online scholarship fundraiser
LAHAINA – West Maui Lions will hold their first Online Auction Scholarship Fundraiser on Biddingforgood.com, which will run from Oct. 25 through Nov. 22.
This is the club’s fourth year raising money for graduates who are continuing to higher education.
Auction items from local organizations are being donated, including categories such as art, jewelry, hotel stays, fine dining and much more.
