Fuhrman

LAHAINA – Phil G. Fuhrman (1946-2013) was a 45-year resident of Lahaina. He peacefully passed away at home on June 13.

Fuhrman was raised on the Central Coast of California. He graduated from Palo Alto High School and was enrolled in the aero-astro program at Stanford University.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as a Sgt. 1st Class for an aircraft maintenance team in Vietnam.

After his military service, Fuhrman moved to Maui. He served as maintenance man at Lahaina Yacht Club and projectionist at the Queen Theatre. He worked at Dunlop Cabinetry in the late ’70s.

After a stint with Asso. Masons/G.W. Murphy Construction, Fuhrman started his own company, P&P Home Repair LLC.

In 30 years of contracting at the Kaanapali Royal Resort, Fuhrman developed many quality friendships with the owners, management and staff there. He will be missed for his expertise, integrity, humor and aloha.

Fuhrman also served as project manager for Construction Associates Inc. on several Maui projects.

In the late ’60s, his dear friend, Capt. Steve Elkins, introduced him to the sport of yacht racing, He raced in several Around the State, Victoria to Maui, and Trans-Pac races. His passion was racing island waters on the Kaimiloa and the Ho Lei. Fuhrman was a longtime member of Lahaina Yacht Club and Maui Boat & Yacht Club.

In 1970, he met the love of his life, Carolynn Blake. Together, they enjoyed sailing, Big Island vacations, spending time with friends and their cats, watching comedy shows and working the Vic-Maui race finish line for many years.

After his sweetheart passed away in 2005, Phil never got used to life without her. May they sail the heavens together in peace.

Fuhrman is survived by his brother, Adrian Fuhrman of Felton, CA; sister Sharon Marshall of Costa Mesa, CA; stepson and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Fairservice of Stockton, CA; two grand daughters of Stockton, CA; and a niece and nephew of Southern California.

A memorial in his honor will be held at sea on Saturday, July 20, from 3:30 to 4 p.m. near the Lahaina Roadstead. Those wishing to attend should meet at Lahaina Harbor at 3 p.m. at the dinghy dock at the end of Canal Street.

A Celebration of Life will follow at 399 Front St., Lahaina. Suggested parking is on Ilikahi Street or at 505 Front St.
