King Kamehameha III School student Tony Nunez (above) last week came in second place in the Open Mini Groms Division (age ten and under) in the prestigious NSSA National Championship event in Huntington Beach, California. Sierra Lerbeck of Lahaina finished in fourth in the Open Longboard (all ages) final and second in the Explorer Womens Longboard (all ages) final. West Maui surfers also shined in the Explorer Super Groms (ages ten and under) final, with Nunez in third, Ocean Macedo in fourth and Eli Hanneman in fifth place. The contest is the highest profile youth surfing event in America.

West Maui Animal Clinic to host event

LAHAINA – West Maui Animal Clinic, 232 Lahainaluna Road, invites the public to join its staff and pet, Archer, on Saturday, July 13, for a day of food, fun, giveaways and finding forever homes for some of Maui’s finest Pit bulls.

Among the dogs ready for adoption is ‘Eleu, the clinic’s Angel Fund “super dog” who has made an incredible recovery.

Come to adopt – or just to show your support – and enjoy ice cream, hot dogs and giveaways.

Preschool to hold Movie Night

LAHAINA – Children of the Rainbow Preschool and Nursery will host its first Movie Night under the stars on Friday, July 26.

“Finding Nemo” will be shown from 7 to 9 p.m. Bring a chair or blanket to sit on; food and drinks will be on sale.

Children of the Rainbow is located at 142 Baker St. in Lahaina. The school is currently holding enrollment for keiki ages 2-5 for the 2013-14 school year.

Napili Community Garden to hold orientation events

NAPILI – Napili Community Garden will host orientations for 200-square-foot plots.

The group will meet in the garden’s parking lot mauka of Napili Plaza at 4 p.m. on July 13, or 8 a.m. on July 17.

The fee is $40 for the remainder of 2013. If unable to attend one of the sessions, e-mail Napiligarden@gmail.com.
