Kai trains at Maui Jiu Jitsu — mostly at ADG, Maui Jiu Jitsu’s Lahaina dojo. He has been training over a year and plans to compete as often as possible, including the next NAGA tournament in October. His instructors are Master Luis Heredia, Professor Teddy Lloyd and Professor Chris Nardi.

Soroptimists to stage Health Expo

NAPILI – Soroptimist International of West Maui will host a health and wellness interactive expo on Saturday, July 13, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Maui Preparatory Academy.

The club is looking for vendors and local businesses to participate. If you make or sell items and/or activities that promote a health and wellness lifestyle, this is an opportunity to showcase your products and educate the public.

The expo will offer fitness activities, a farmers’ market, Plantation House farm-to-table demo, keiki obstacle course and more.

The expo begins at 8 a.m. and concludes with a grand prize drawing at noon. The number of vendor participants is limited to 25, so that vendors can receive maximum exposure.

The Plantation House Restaurant in Kapalua now features weekend entertainment with popular local singer Wilmont Kahaialii Jr. He appears every Friday evening from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., singing Hawaiian favorites and playing his guitar. Call 669-6299 or visit www.theplantationhouse.com for information.

The fee to participate is $50 per booth; a table and chairs are provided for each booth. Set-up is from 7 to 8 a.m., and tear down starts at noon.

Soroptimist International is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit professional women’s organization that works to improve the lives of girls and women in the Maui community and around the world. Programs include the annual Lahainaluna High School scholarship, Women of Opportunity award, supporting various local charities and staging the keiki Halloween parade.

Vendor applications must be received no later than June 28. E-mail Kathy at “mailto:siwmkathy@yahoo.com”>siwmkathy@yahoo.com or call (808) 298-2625 if you would like to participate.
