Educational Opportunity Center offers information on college

LAHAINA – The Educational Opportunity Center at the University of Hawaii Maui College is helps people who are interested in attending college but unsure of where to begin.

Free information sessions are scheduled for Oct. 4 and 11 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the UHMC Lahaina Education Center at 60 Kenui Place at the entrance of the Front Street Apartment complex.

EOC provides free college admissions, financial aid assistance and career exploration services to eligible Maui County residents. Those interested in enrolling in college for the spring 2013 semester should be preparing now.

The EOC has been on Maui since 1977. Over the years, staff has helped thousands of students get into college on Maui or elsewhere, and others into careers.

The EOC’s goal is to increase the number of Maui County residents who enroll in college, especially those who face economic barriers, educational challenges and those with military connections.

Wiki Wiki runs set

LAHAINA – The second annual Wiki Wiki 5K and 10K will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, and welcomes all runners, joggers and walkers.

Race day registration starts at 6:30 a.m., and the race begins at 7:30 a.m.

The event will start and end at The Vitamin Shoppe at Lahaina Gateway Center. The course up to the old sugar cane haul road offers sweeping ocean and mountain views.

Pre-register online at “http://www.flpregister.com/24″>www.flpregister.com/24 or in person from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The Vitamin Shoppe on Friday, Oct. 5, for a discounted entry fee of $30. The fee is $25 for Valley Isle Road Runners members, store Healthy Awards Club members and youth age 17 or younger on race day. Registration on the morning of the race is $35.
