Park Draft Commercial Services Plan released
KULA – Haleakala National Park has released the Draft Commercial Services Plan and Environmental Assessment for review and comments.
The purpose of the plan is to provide directions for the management of commercial services in non-wilderness areas of the park over the next 10-15 years.
The plan describes several alternatives for how the park’s commercial services could be managed to achieve overall park goals and meet desired resource conditions and high-quality visitor experiences.
The document may be found at www.nps.gov/hale, www.pepc.nps.gov and the public libraries at Hana, Makawao and Kahului. The public review period for this document is 60 days. Comments must be received by Aug. 31, 2012.
Comments can be submitted via the Internet at parkplanning.nps.gov /hale or by mail to Superintendent, Haleakala National Park, P.O. Box 369, Makawao, HI 96768.
Public meetings on the plan will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Mayor Hannibal Tavares Community Center in Pukalani on Aug. 15, Helene Hall in Hana on Aug. 16 and the Kipahulu Visitor Center in Haleakala National Park on Aug. 17.
