Firefighters help in ocean rescues

By Staff | Jul 12, 2012

WEST MAUI – On Sunday, July 8, at 2:49 p.m., Maui Fire Department received a report of a capsized boat 200 yards offshore in Honokohau Bay with four men onboard.

The jet ski unit first on the scene found all men safe and requiring no medical attention. The jet ski slowly towed the 25-foot fishing boat into the bay – close enough for firefighters to hook up equipment to the vessel and right the boat. The boat was then bailed and anchored in the bay.

On Sunday at 3:38 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to a report of two stand up paddle boarders having difficulty getting back to shore about 200 yards off Pohaku Park in Kahana.

Jet Ski 3 towed the two teenage females from Vancouver, British Columbia, back to shore.
