Highway work to impact traffic

By Staff | Jul 5, 2012

ULUPALAKUA – Sempra U.S. Gas & Power last week announced that there will be temporary lane closures along Piilani Highway Upcountry near Papaka Road to the Auwahi Wind project site on Ulupalakua Ranch (near mile marker 20) starting on July 2.

For four weeks, a portion of the highway will intermittently be closed for no more than 20 minutes at a time between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

To minimize traffic delays on these days, some roadwork activities may also take place between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Highway improvements are being made to better accommodate the large semi-trucks scheduled to transport “superloads” of wind turbine components to the project site in August.

Electronic notification boards will be placed along Piilani Highway in advance of construction to alert motorists of the upcoming road closures.

Once construction begins, signs will also be placed along the highway to inform motorists of the closures ahead.

Residents can access updated transportation schedules and other project information by visiting www.SempraUSGP.com/auwahi or calling the Auwahi Wind project hotline at 1-888-587-2919.
