Maui Okinawan Festival slated

KAHULUI – Maui Okinawan Kenjin Kai (MOKK), along with cosponsor Maui Mall, will hold its Maui Okinawan Festival on Saturday, June 16, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Maui Mall.

“Unleash Your Uchinanchu Spirit” is the theme of the festival being chaired by Jason Hondo and Lori Shinsato, with lots of support from MOKK members and friends.

The entertainment program will feature continuous Okinawan music and dance performed by homegrown talent from Maui, as well as performers from Oahu. Taiko and sanshin players, as well as martial arts demonstrations, will also take the stage.

Okinawan artifacts will be on view at a cultural display. There will be 15- to 20-minute presentations and demonstrations on Okinawan topics.

The event will also feature a craft fair, professional photo sessions in traditional Okinawan wear, Okinawan food, Country Store and keiki games. For more information, call 242-1560.
