Tour West Side gardens

Even Maui Preparatory Academy preschoolers maintain a garden on campus.
WEST MAUI – The 2012 West End (Lahaina) School Garden Tours will be held on Saturday, April 21.
The tour starts at Sacred Hearts School from 9 to 9:45 a.m., followed by King Kamehameha III School from 10:15 to 11 a.m., Lahainaluna High School from 11:15 a.m. to noon, food and lunch demonstration by Paris Nabavi from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., then Maui Preparatory Academy from 2:45 to 3:30 p.m. The tour fee is $5 per person.
The school garden tours are cosponsored by the Maui School Garden Network and Home Gardening Support Network with support from the Maui County Farm Bureau, Lahaina schools and Chef Nabavi, who has offered to make lunch for this event.
This tour is open to school teachers, school garden coordinators, master gardeners, parent volunteers and other interested community members.
Saturday’s tour is an opportunity to observe the progress made at each school garden program, exchange ideas about garden-based learning and outdoor classrooms, gain ideas on how to connect garden-based learning to school curriculum, and learn how school gardens are being used as environments for nutrition education, social engagement and spaces to foster curiosity about nature and the environment.
