Trio rescued at Napili Bay

By Staff | Feb 16, 2012

NAPILI – Maui Fire Department last week Wednesday morning received a report of three people in distress 60-70 yards offshore at Napili Bay.

The alarm sounded at 10:34 a.m., and Engine 11 and Ocean Safety Jet Ski 3 responded. Firefighters arrived on the scene at 10:41 a.m. and had all parties on shore by 11 a.m. There were no injuries.

The victims were visitors from Canada: a 56-year-old man and another male, 38, and his ten-year-old daughter.

MFD reported that the elder male was swimming and got caught in the rip current. Upon seeing the man in trouble, the father and daughter went out on boogie boards to attempt to rescue him. Both the father and his daughter also got caught in the rip.

Although all involved were from Canada, the elder male is not related to the father and daughter.
