LAHAINA – Lahaina Yacht Club recently donated more than $10,700 to Hospice Maui to support its great work in helping terminally ill patients and their families.

Dr. Greg LaGoy, executive director of Hospice for 22 years, accepted the donation, saying it would be used for medicines, supplies and equipment.

Lahaina Yacht Club raised the money for the donation by hosting a charity golf tournament and community auction.

Seventy-six golfers played the tournament at the Kaanapali Kai Course, then returned to the yacht club for lunch and a lively auction. A large selection of artwork, golf packages and restaurant gift certificates were donated to the cause and sold to the highest bidders.

Hospice Maui was selected as the recipient of this annual charity event, because of its service to the people of Maui, Lahaina Yacht Club noted.

In addition to services for patients with terminal illness, Hospice Maui offers bereavement support groups, a library and a holiday grief workshop to assist people through the difficult holiday season.
