LAHAINA – Maria Lanakila Church will hold a memorial service on Friday, Dec. 2, for Dennis J. Winnie.

Winnie, 88, longtime church greeter and reader, passed away in Sienna, Italy, on Aug. 31.

The decorated World War II veteran who opened the church for 17 years was recently returned for burial in Long Island, New York.

He formerly served as an accountant for Paramount Pictures, working on “Hawaii Five O” and “Magnum P.I.” before retiring to Maui 1993.

Friends and parishioners will gather at 6 p.m. before a memorial mass at 7 p.m. at the church on Wainee Street.
