NAPILI – John Severson’s classic 1970 surf movie, “Pacific Vibrations,” will be shown at Maui Preparatory Academy on Thursday, Nov. 10, under the stars.
Doors open at 6 p.m., and the film will start at 6:30 p.m. Severson will be on hand to introduce the movie.
According to a recent article by Surfer Magazine, “Pacific Vibrations” is “easily one of the all-time great surf films.”
The lost classic has been re-mastered in high definition and is now available for a new generation of surfers, film buffs and environmentalists to enjoy.
The colorful documentary was filmed in 1969 by Lahaina resident Severson, the Hall of Fame surfer, artist and founder of Surfer Magazine.
Through California and Hawaii, with many views of Maui, surfing legends Jock Sutherland and Bill Hamilton reveal their motivation and obsession with the sport to the soundtrack of rock legends Cream, Crosby Stills and Nash, Steve Miller and more.
The screening is a fund-raiser for Maui Preparatory Academy. Tickets are available for advance purchase at Lahaina Music or the Napili Coffee Store for $5. Tickets will be sold at the door for $8.
The film is rated PG-13 for brief nudity.
Baby-sitting will be available at Maui Prep for an extra fee. Bring your beach chairs!
