Lahaina Intermediate to discuss new school day schedule

Lahainaluna High School capped off its 2011 Homecoming Week with crowning festivities at War Memorial Stadium last Saturday night in front of some 2,000 students, alumni, family and staff. Queen Ana Lauese and King Marcus Badua are pictured during half-time festivities at the game. The Lunas dropped a heartbreaker to the Maui High Sabers by a 14-13 score Saturday. The Lunas will finish the MIL regular season versus Baldwin this Friday night and then move on to the HHSAA State Division II Playoffs in two weeks. Photo by Walter Chihara.
LAHAINA – The Lahaina Intermediate School Community Council will hold two separate public forums for students, parents and community members to offer input regarding a new school day schedule planned to start in the 2012-13 school year.
The forums will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 16, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Nov. 22, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Both meetings will be held in the Lahaina Intermediate School library.
An earlier release of students on Wednesdays will be the only change to the weekly school schedule. Students will still be served lunch before being released.
According to the council, the intent of the change is to create common planning time for teachers.
