Scholarships available for Women’s Leadership Conference

By Staff | Jul 28, 2011

WAILUKU — The county Committee on the Status of Women is offering scholarships for young women to attend Hawaii’s eighth annual International Women’s Leadership Conference (IWLC) this fall.

Founded by former Governor Linda Lingle, the IWLC gathers successful female leaders from around the world and enables them to share their inspirational stories with conference delegates. Nearly 1,000 Hawaii women from the fields of business, marketing, media, health care, government, international relations and community service gather annually to seek inspiration from women leaders worldwide. Attendees also include men who understand and respect the value of women’s leadership.

The 2011 conference will be held at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel and Resort on Sept. 20, 2011. The scholarship being offered will pay for airfare, transportation, registration fees and lunch.

Those interested in applying must provide the following information in written form by 4:30 p.m. on Aug. 15: a personal statement explaining why you would like to attend the conference, and your name, address, telephone number, school name and leadership activities you have participated in. Consideration will be given to students with the greatest financial need. Address this in your personal statement.

Send your application via e-mail to Debbie Cabebe at debbie.cabebe@meoinc.org. For more information on the conference, visit www.iwlchi.org/.
