Lahainaluna High School prepares for new year
LAHAINA — In preparation for the 2011-12 school year, Lahainaluna High School announced important reminders to students and their parents.
Seniors in the Class of 2012 who have yet to make their yearbook photo appointments should call Photography by Irvin at 242-9447 immediately. All photos need to be completed by the end of July. For information, contact yearbook advisor Art Fillazar at 662-3976.
Payment for school fees and pickup of class schedules and photo IDs will take place in the Samuel Kamakau Library as assigned: Tuesday, July 19, Freshman Class of 2015, 9 to 11 a.m.; July 19, Sophomore Class of 2014, 1 to 3 p.m.; Wednesday, July 20, Junior Class of 2013, 9 to 11 a.m.; and July 20, Senior Class of 2012, 1 to 3 p.m.
Mandatory fees include $22 for student government and class dues, and for postage and handling for quarterly school mailings. Seniors also must pay for their cap, gowns and diploma covers — it’s $33 for this “GradPak.”
Optional fees include $25 for Maui Interscholastic League Athletic Pass (all athletes and boarders must purchase this sports pass); $50 for a 2012 “Ka Lama” yearbook; and $5 for a year’s subscription to “Ka Leo Luna,” the school newspaper.
A school policy that took effect on July 1 mandates that only cash payments, cashier’s/bank checks or money orders for exact amounts will be accepted. Personal checks are no longer acceptable as a form of payment. Credit card payments are also not available.
To prepare for picture taking for school photo IDs, students are asked to dress appropriately. No tank tops, sleeveless shirts, thin straps, halters or sarongs are permitted. Hats and sunglasses must also be removed.
Withholds must also be cleared before the ID will be issued.
Representatives from the PTSA (Parent Teacher Student Association) will also be on hand to accept annual dues and share information about the PTSA and Project Graduation for the Class of 2012.
Payments for bus passes may also be submitted during the assigned time. If paying for bus passes by bank/cashier’s check or money order, please have it separate from the mandatory school fees.
Deposits for Meal Time accounts may be handled through the main office only. Payments are being accepted during summer business hours.
Informational flyers were distributed to students before they were released for summer break in May.
Transfer students must make an appointment to see school Registrar Barbie Otomo to register for classes. Call 662-3979, extension 244, to schedule an appointment. A copy of the previous transcript is also required. Students transferring from a school outside of the State of Hawaii must present their TB clearance prior to registering, as well as a physical exam clearance.
Freshmen Orientation for the Class of 2015 will be conducted on Monday, Aug. 1, and Tuesday, Aug. 2. Freshmen are to report to the Boarders’ Field by 8 a.m. Transfer students are to report to the school cafeteria at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2, for a brief orientation until noon.
All students from all grade levels will report for a full day of classes on Wednesday, Aug. 3. Students are to report first to their Po’okela (Advisory/Homeroom) classroom by 7:55 a.m. Dismissal that day will be at the usual Wednesday early time of 1:15 p.m.
For information, call Fillazar, student activities coordinator, at 662-3976 or the school office at 662-4000.
