West Maui community loses Sophia ‘Sophie’ Mae DeLoria

LAHAINA — Sophia “Sophie” Mae DeLoria, 8, of Lahaina, passed away on May 31, 2011, in Kipahulu.
Sophia was born on Feb. 12, 2003, in Wailuku.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. on Friday, June 10, at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church in Lahaina. Services will begin at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, lei are welcome.
Scattering of her ashes at sea for close family and friends will be held at North Beach at sunset.
Sophia was a student at King Kamehameha III Elementary School in Lahaina. She had just completed second grade.
Described as a very energetic young girl who liked swimming and ballet, Tom Popdan enjoyed coaching Sophia for two years with Lahaina Swim Club.
He said Sophia was fun to coach and took to the sport quickly.
Sophia is survived by her parents, Susan and Francis “JD” DeLoria; grandparents Derek and El Robb, and Frank DeLoria; aunts Jillian (Steve) Haggerty, Cherie Parsons and Kim (Henry) Heck; uncle Douglas (Lucinda) Robb; and cousins Tom and James Haggerty, Miranda Robb, Hector Robb, Fergus Robb, Laura Rose, Corey Heck and Francis Lee Parsons.
