Silva praises boaters

LAHAINA — Lahaina Harbor Harbormaster Hal Silva praised boaters for their actions in the wake of Friday morning’s tsunami damage.

Silva said a “pretty bad surge” caused extensive damage to walkways on the outer margin of the harbor, as well as the collapse of one section at the inner section of the state facility.

Monetary damages were not determined at press time Monday.

Silva praised harbor users for cleaning up the facility, recovering debris for possible reuse and securing a channel marker that broke loose.

“Hats off to boaters” who took over in a crisis situation and helped get operations at Lahaina Harbor back to normal, Silva commented.
