Parts of ‘Ahihi Kina‘u remain closed
SOUTH MAUI — The state Department of Land & Natural Resources has extended restrictions at ‘Ahihi Kina‘u Natural Area Preserve for two more years.
Access is restricted to the majority of the land portions of the reserve, including unofficial trails to Ka Lua O Lapa, Ka Lae Loa (“The Aquarium”) and Moku Ha (“The Fishbowl”).
Access to other portions of the reserve most used by the public will remain open during visiting hours.
These include Waila Cove and the coastal area along ‘Ahihi Bay, including the “Dumps” surf break.
Visiting hours are 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. daily. For more information, visit www.hawaii.gov/dlnr.
