Boy Scouts to honor Goodfellow, Unemori
KAANAPALI — Community leaders J. Stephen Goodfellow and Hilton H. Unemori have been selected by the Maui County Council of the Boy Scouts of America as the 2010 Distinguished Citizen honorees.
The council’s highest honor given to individuals will be bestowed on Goodfellow and Unemori at the Distinguished Citizen Dinner on Saturday, July 17, at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa’s Grand Ballroom.
The reception will begin at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. The event will also pay tribute to the Boy Scouts of America’s 100 Years of Scouting — a milestone that honors the millions of youth and volunteers involved with this program nationwide.
“For 100 years, scouting programs have helped our youth develop academic skills, self-confidence, leadership and citizenship skills that influence their adult lives,” said Glenn Yamasaki, president of the Maui County Council, Boy Scouts of America Board of Directors.
“We are honored to recognize Steve and Hilton — two individuals who embody these outstanding qualities and who serve as models of successful citizenship demonstrated through their lifetime of community service.”
Past Boy Scouts’ Distinguished Citizen recipients include the late John C. “Johnny” Baldwin, Peter D. Baldwin, the late Colin C. Cameron, Dorvin D. Leis, the late Michael H. Lyons II, Roger P. MacArthur, David “Buddy” Nobriga, Meyer M. Ueoka and the late Masaru “Pundy” Yokouchi.
Event tickets are $125 per person. Sponsor tables with preferred seating and company recognition are available. For tickets and sponsorship information, call the Boy Scouts office at 244-3724.
Proceeds will benefit the Maui County Council of the Boy Scouts of America and will be used for local scouting programs.
