DLNR to discuss proposed rule changes

By Staff | Jun 24, 2010

WAILUKU — The state Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) will hold a public information meeting on Maui regarding proposed amendments to the rules and regulations of the State Land Use Conservation District under Hawaii Administrative Rules Chapter 13-5.

The meeting is set for Thursday, July 1, at 6 p.m. at the Velma M. Santos Community Center at 395 Waena Place in Wailuku.

The Office of Conservation and Coastal Lands (OCCL) is responsible for overseeing these rules covering approximately 2 million acres of private and public lands that lie within the conservation district, including beach and marine lands out to the seaward extent of the state’s jurisdiction.

Over the years, OCCL has identified many elements within the rules that could be modified to improve its efficiency; contribute positively to OCCL’s core objectives related to natural resource conservation, and that will benefit landowners and agencies alike, the state reported.

Public information meetings are a precursor to public hearings that will be held at a later date. The proposed Chapter 13-5 rule amendments may be found online at hawaii.gov/dlnr/occl.

Anyone with special needs requiring accommodations or assistance may contact OCCL at least four days prior to the meeting at (808) 587-0377.
