“En Plein Air — Hidden Maui” will be held at Puukolii from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 3 and 17 (oil painting with Mona Harris) and May 18 and 25 (watercolors with Peggy Robertson). “En Plein Air” is a French phrase meaning “in the open air.” The concept was introduced in the late 1800s when Impressionist painters ventured out of their studios into nature to investigate and capture the effects of sunlight on a subject during different times of the day. Students will be taken to paint en plein air at a private site on the former plantation village of Puukolii. With spectacular views of Lanai, Molokai and the West Maui Mountains, this is an exclusive workshop for Kaunoa students only. Choose a session, grab your brush, pick your medium and instructor, and get ready to paint a masterpiece. Some experience is required; cost of $25 includes some supplies and lunch.
“Drawing with Peggy Robertson” will be held on three Thursdays from May 6-27 from 10 a.m. to noon. This three-week class is open to artists of all levels, including beginners with no experience. The course includes sessions at the West Maui Senior Center and drawing on location at a private site in Lahaina. Bring your own brown bag lunch, a drawing pad and a #2 pencil. Cost of $20 is payable by May 3.
“Passport to the World, Destination Germany” with Ellen Belconis will be held at the West Maui Senior Center on Friday, May 7, from 10 a.m. to noon. Take an armchair trip with Ellen to experience the colorful traditions and history of Bavaria. Complete your Bavarian tour with a scrumptious German-themed lunch and dessert prepared by Ellen. Cost of $8 is payable by May 3.
“Destination Switzerland” with Belconis will be held at the center on Friday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to noon. Experience the extraordinary beauty of Switzerland. Follow Ellen as she shows you her favorite Swiss places to stay, eat and play. A fondue lunch follows the presentation. Cost of $8 is payable by May 7.
