DOT to improve Keawe Street intersection

By Staff | Apr 22, 2010

LAHAINA — Lahaina Bypass Now (LBN) has been working closely with the state Department of Transportation (DOT) to improve the intersection of Keawe Street and Honoapiilani Highway in Lahaina.

DOT announced that work will begin on that intersection this week.

The plan is to create a dedicated left turn lane (green arrow) for traffic going makai on Keawe Street, turning left and going south toward Lahaina.

Intersection upgrades, including new traffic lights, are expected to take six to eight weeks to complete.

“This will allow for a smoother and quicker traffic flow for those vehicles coming out of the Lahaina Gateway shopping center, Emerald Plaza and the Walgreen’s/(Panda Express) area who want to make that left turn into Lahaina and points south,” LBN reported.

Traffic alerts will be issued by the DOT as the project progresses.
