WEST MAUI — The family of Morris Stessel recently held a memorial service for his late wife, Jeanne Stessel, and grandson, Erik Waikiki.

The ashes of Jeanne Stessel and Waikiki, the son of daughter Cindy Stessel, were united at sea amid a cascade of flowers in a two-boat escort off Lahaina.

Jeanne and husband “Stess” were 30-year residents of Lahaina. They opened The Cookie Man Shop, a children’s store, and later Island Swimwear Boutique in The Wharf Cinema Center. Their daughter, Cindy, became the general manager and buyer.

More Island Swimwear Shops followed, including a store in Kahana.

“Everyone knew what a joy it was to be in the company of Jeanne. Erik, too, so very much loved, had many good island friends and classmates,” the family noted.

Morris and Jeanne’s daughter, Lorrie Lohr, and more Stessel ‘Ohana from California all came to Maui to be together.

Victor and Mary Bellarosa of the Light Bringers of Lahaina were asked to assist with the memorial, being close in heart with the Stessel Family over the many years.
