Malama Pu‘uwai slated in Kapalua
WAILUKU — Maui Memorial Medical Center will offer its spring session of the community cardiovascular wellness program Malama Pu‘uwai (Take Care of Your Heart) beginning Thursday, March 11, in West Maui.
The six-week program is free and open to the public, but preregistration is required and space is limited. This session will run on Thursday evenings through April 15 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Kapalua Ridge.
The Malama Pu‘uwai program focuses on education, healthy food choices, exercise, screening and referrals. Its purpose is to promote wellness through early detection and modification of cardiovascular disease risk factors.
Participants must commit to a six-week program with meetings held once a week for two-and-a-half hours. Through the program, the following is offered to participants free: health assessment and lifestyle profile, blood pressure evaluation, body mass index, laboratory tests, counseling with a nurse, 30 minutes of exercise each week, healthy food choices, education on cardiovascular risk factors, and assistance in goal setting.
