Cafe to host runs for Women Helping Women
PAIA — The Green Banana Cafe will host the second annual “Fun Run for Victims of Domestic Violence” on Saturday, March 13, beginning at 6 a.m. at the 137 Hana Highway cafe in Paia Town.
Participants can sign up for a 5K or 10K fun run to raise awareness and support for Women Helping Women, an organization that offers safety, support and empowerment to victims of domestic violence.
The runs will begin and end at The Green Banana Cafe. Both runs will take place on pavement and flat terrain, heading westbound on Hana Highway to the Kaunoa Senior Center in Spreckelsville (for the 5K course) or Kanaha Beach Park (for the 10K course).
As the official race sponsor, the cafe will reward all participants with restorative goodies at the finish line. Additionally, water stations, first aid supplies and a trained support staff will be available the day of the race.
Awards will be presented to the top three “Fastest Overall Male and Female” finishers for both runs. Participants will also be eligible to win several exciting prizes in a series of drawings that will follow the award presentations. This is a family-friendly event, but please leave your pets at home.
Last year, nearly 100 runners participated in the brisk, sunrise run. This year, the café will provide energy-boosting tunes from a live deejay.
Registration begins at 6 a.m. on Saturday, March 13, and both the 5K and 10K runs will begin promptly at 8 a.m. — please be on time.
Preregistration forms (available at The Green Banana Cafe) must be completed by Wednesday, March 10.
Entry fees for the 10K race are $25 for adults and $20 for youth under 18. Entry fees for the 5K race are $20 for adults and $15 for youth under 18. Late registration will require an additional $10 fee. For more information, visit www.whwmaui.net or contact Women Helping Women Executive Director Stacey Moniz at 242-6600.
