Redemption center closing
LAHAINA — The county Department of Environmental Management announced that the Keawe Street Redemption Center, a temporary location for redeeming HI5 bottles and cans, will cease operating on Dec. 27.
The center is located off of Honoapiilani Highway behind Lahaina Gateway Center.
Landowner West Maui Venture Group gave the county free use of the land to operate the redemption center for nearly five years, and the agreement expires Dec. 31. The company recently notified the county of its desire to regain use of the parcel.
After Dec. 27, residents are encouraged to take their qualifying bottles and cans to either of two existing West Maui facilities: International Market HI 5 Redemption Center at 275 Lahainaluna Road, which is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 7:30 a.m. until 6 p.m., or the Maui Disposal Mobile Redemption Center in Napili across from Napili Market. The center is open Mondays through Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
